Planet Comicon 2014 Guest: Eric Scott

Eric Scott PhotoCartoonist Eric Scott, creator of “Back In The Day,” has been drawing comics for most of his life, and considers himself lucky to be able to do it for a living. Scott is a member of the Andrews McMeel Universal/GoComics family twice over. His full-time job is drawing greeting cards for Andrews McMeel Publishing, requiring him to work in a variety of design styles.

Creating “Back In The Day” on GoComics since March 2010, Scott  likes that his comic strip’s focus on dinosaurs allow him the freedom to explore humor that might be limited if his characters were human. He thinks of his audience as being young, but his strip also appeals to grown-ups.bid140312

Scott describes his comic as “… a different world back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth. There were as yet no sugar substitutes, so hyperactivity was rampant. And brains were small, so “I’m with stupid” T-shirts were hot. It was a time of abundant flora and verbal fun-a, a rough and beastly world in which sometimes the flaky survived, and, fortunately for us, hungry, doomed life forms spoke perfectly good English.”

An active member of the National Cartoonists Society, Scott has been a Mad Magazine contributor since 2008. He won his hometown’s (Wichita, Kan.) Riverfest poster contests in 1999 and 2012 and has also designed restaurant packaging for children’s meals. A graduate of Wichita State University, Scott currently resides in the Kansas City area.
