Though I’ve been to many Cons over the years, I was finally able to introduce my dad to his first ever con in 2010. He introduced me to SciFi through the ‘SciFi Book Club’ and Analog, way back in the day. He used to tell my sister and I bedtime stories that I thought were very inventive till I realized he was telling us The Hobbit. He dragged me to Star Wars during it’s opening weekend in a town 25 miles away.
So I was grateful to have the chance to take my dad to the friendliest Con ever, right here in KC. He’d suggested going to SDCC, but having gone there, I knew it was a bit, er, much to take in.
As we entered the KC hall, he was like a 12 year old, enjoying all the sights, amazed seeing Steampunk fans dressed up, 501st, etc. He looked at me, amazed, and said, ‘Son, there’s something here for everyone…’ Like all his fanboy dreams come true. –Bob Atkins
